Jamie had been living with his foster parents before coming to Dimensions and it is clear from the beaming smile how happy he is. He has an incredible rapport with his Locality Manager, Dorothy, and Support Worker, Cassie and he shared with us his journey and his hopes for the future.
20-year-old Jamie transitioned at 18 to his current home in Southampton which he shares with one other person. He exudes a sense of fun and has a huge personality. Since being in his new home, he says he is a lot more sociable and supported by his team has learned many new skills.
There were initially some challenges, including the dynamic of the home. One person who used to live there didn’t get on well with Jamie and as he says created a ‘chaotic’ environment. It was decided that he should move out and since then Jamie has felt much more at ease and has settled in well.
Jamie found lockdown difficult at times, especially since he’s so outgoing, but his support team helped him through this, so he didn’t feel too isolated or lonely.
After Jamie moved in, lockdown happened shortly afterward, which he says he found difficult at times, especially since he’s so outgoing, but his support team helped him through this, so he didn’t feel too isolated or lonely.
He recently was able to go on holiday to Spain with his friend, which he enjoyed, and hopes to be able to travel more in the future. He visits London a lot and previously has visited Italy; Dublin is next on his list of places to go.

Jamie has also discovered a love of acting – he recently performed in a Shakespeare play and loved entertaining the audience. He also enjoys performing in musicals and he was keen to show us his excellent DJ skills.
Jamie regularly posts on TikTok and has quite a fan base. He has his own man cave where he, like many others his age, enjoys playing on his Xbox and chatting with his many friends. He also said that since he came to Dimensions he has been doing “loads more” than he ever did before.
His support team has helped him with the importance of budgeting as well as having a healthy diet and exercise. Something which has improved dramatically since he moved into his new home. He now goes to an athletics group in Winchester and enjoys playing rugby.
We had a tour of his lovely home, and he has plans afoot for some decoration – he is thinking of a bold red colour for the living room which had Dorothy chuckling.
Jamie has a big family and enjoys spending time with his mum, especially at Christmas, and will from time to time see his younger siblings.
He is also very proud to have received his Provisional Driving Licence and hopes one day to be a driver, perhaps taking people to and from college. This is one of his Activate outcomes (A Dimensions Outcomes Focussed Model). He also would love to have his own home in the future and get married.
Jamie with the right support, is living life to the full, having new experiences, has a wide social network, and most importantly, has ambition and belief for his future.
