South West
Welcome to the South West region of Dimensions.
We support over 130 people with learning difficulties in the South West of England.
Our purpose is to help the people we support to live the life they want, and we believe that people with learning difficulties should be respected, have the same opportunities in life as everyone else, and make their own choices and decisions.
What we do
We provide a wide variety of support services in our region. These include:
- group living services, for people living in shared housing
- Supported Living Services, providing individualised support packages for people living in their own homes
- outreach services,
- a short term break service which supports 34 people
- registered residential care homes
We currently provide services throughout Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset and Wiltshire.
Our aims
We endeavour to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support. We will do this by focusing on the following regional aims:
- developing person centred plans for all of the people we support
- involving the people we support in the recruitment of their own staff
- sourcing employment and business creation opportunities for the people we support
- involving the people we support in auditing their own services
We are involved in other initiatives that will help to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support. These include an In Control pilot, which focuses on self-directed support, and the use of assistive technology to help the people we support achieve greater independence.
Carol's story
I've been supported by Dimensions since January 1999. The staff, and especially my key worker Alison, have supported and encouraged me to become more independent. I am doing things for myself that I never thought would be possible without support. I can walk or catch the bus when I want to do my own shopping, sometimes I meet my friend Molly and we go for coffee. I also catch the bus into Bath and help at the Salvation Café for the day. To do this I had to take a food hygiene course, which I passed.
I can go to the local clinic for my health appointments alone.
I have my own bank account and collect the money I need for the week, which I manage myself - the staff help me budget so I don't overspend.
I am 65 in December and if I can do it, anybody can. It's wonderful to be able to do what I want, when I want!
