Dimensions in Dorset achieves Outstanding rating

“Dimensions’ processes make getting an Outstanding possible. Then it was up to us to really go for it as a team.” So says Carmel Knight, Operations Director for the latest Dimensions area to receive an Outstanding CQC report.

“There was a mythology in the office that you couldn’t get an Outstanding rating on your first inspection – and this was our first inspection since Dorset was split out from Dimensions’ larger Southampton area.

“When the inspector scotched this rumour on day one, we knew we were in with a chance.” Carmel adds, “we had everything ready – everything the Inspector wanted was immediately available, and many people were prepared to offer compliments.”

In Dorset, Dimensions principally works with people with very high levels of support need in Dorchester, Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth. Not everything goes right all the time but the team has a practical approach to learning from mistakes.

For example, a social care professional told the inspector: “They [the management team] have been very open and transparent when things have gone wrong, like medicine errors. Errors are investigated, actions are taken and new measures are put in place…”

A local authority representative said: “Management are very friendly, diligent, conscientious and very professional. I believe [locality manager name] is a great asset; they do a wonderful job running the service. The organisation is excellent”.

A family member wrote: “We have been very impressed with everyone’s dedication and willingness to learn about [person’s name] needs. It is very apparent to us that [name] is receiving a very high level of care from you all”.
