Alex has always been encouraged and supported to do the gardening at the residential service where he lives. After expressing an interest in learning more and meeting new people, his support team looked into ways he could get involved in his local community.
Through colleagues, they heard about the Dimensions Allotment Project; a plot of land set up for people with learning disabilities to meet up and grow fruit and vegetables.
His support team thought this would be the perfect activity for Alex to get involved with, giving him the opportunity to improve his gardening skills and work alongside other people in his community. Since leaving college in September, he’s lost contact with some of the people on his course so he is thrilled to be part of a new project, with new people.
Alex now visits the allotment every Monday, Saturday and Sunday. His enthusiasm at seeing the vegetables grow and being able to harvest and cook with them is growing too.
