Dimensions responds to the Spring Statement

13 March 2018

The Chancellor has today failed to address the concerns of many about adult social care funding. In the Spring Statement, Philip Hammond made no mention of the growing pressures on social care and the impact these will have on the lives of people with disabilities.

Alicia Wood, Head of Public Affairs at Dimensions commented “The crisis in social care will not fix itself, the government must understand that this issue cannot be swept under the carpet for ever.

It is the result of ever increasing pressures on funding that will leave a £2.3 billion hole in social care by 2020.”

The Chancellor has made clear that people with learning disabilities and autism, and their families will have to wait until November for reassurance about the future of adult social care.

This is too long to wait. In the meantime many people with learning disabilities and autism will rightly feel that the government is not listening to them.”

I urge the Chancellor to meet with the people who rely on social care to lead independent lives, and their families, so he can see how urgently action is needed.”
