Award invite for folk DJ with learning disabilities

A DJ with learning disabilities made new connections and received an invite to BBC Radio 2’s Folk awards after visiting their studio.

Sebastian has always had a passion for folk music and dreams of working for the BBC. Last year, he met DJ Mark Radcliffe and watched his live show, where folk musician Bella Hardy was performing.

After Sebastian had a tour of the studio and learned more about radio, Mark offered him tickets to the awards.

Already a DJ and musician himself, Sebastian met Bella at a folk festival and they bonded over their mutual love for music and performing.

The tour was very good and I got to watch the radio show. I really enjoyed the awards.

Sebastian has been supported by Dimensions to secure his weekly slot volunteering as a DJ. Every Tuesday, 7pm-8pm, he hosts Gentle Folk on Chippenham FM, with another DJ.

We personalise all support packages to enable people to live the life they choose. This includes supporting people to become more independent and to achieve their dreams.

Sebastian is already a step towards his dream after securing a regular slot as a DJ and now he’s seen what it’s like at a national radio station.
