Autism Friendly Film Screenings - social stories

Going to the cinema or any new environment can be challenging for some people with autism and preparation is very important.

One way to prepare is by using a Social Story.

Social Stories are used to describe what is going to happen so people know what to expect and how to behave.

More information about Social Stories and the person that developed them; Carol Gray, can be found at www.thegraycenter.org/social-stories

Read a social story

Social Story for ODEON Trafford Centre is a guide to get you started, and was written by mum, Lynn Williams, in preparation for a trip to see Mr Popper's Penguin's screening, we hope that you find it useful.

Each month we will host a different Social Story about the latest autism friendly film screening here on our website. If you would like to share your story with others please send it to autismfilms@dimensions-uk.org

Write your own social story

You can download and personalise the Social Story template and use it to plan your trip to the cinema.

We have included space for you to make this template personal to an individual and the cinema you are visiting. Some people need to know more details about what is going to happen than others. The person using the Social Story may prefer symbols rather than photos. Everyone is different!
