Raising vital funds

25 January 2010

An event organised to celebrate the achievements of people with learning disabilities in Sheffield has helped raise funds to pay for vital communication equipment.

When Dimensions hosted the annual event local businesses were invited to donate prizes for the fundraising raffle. Companies across the city soon rallied round and more than £200 was raised. The cash will now go towards the funding of technology to help people that aren't able to speak the chance to communicate.

Lisa Watchorn, Regional Director for Dimensions in Sheffield, said: "We were very grateful for the donations. Some of the people who we support have profound disabilities that means that they have difficulty communicating their needs. This technology allows us to break down some of the barriers that people face so that we are better placed to provide people with the very support that they need."

Dimensions is one of the UK's largest providers of support services for people with learning difficulties and autism. It supports more than 2,300 people across England and Wales and supports 96 people in Sheffield.
