World Autism Awareness Day
World Autism Awareness Day took place on Friday 2nd April 2010.
In the lead up to the international awareness day we hosted our own series of events across the country to raise awareness and understanding of autism.
Free events were held in March in Newcastle, Sheffield and London to help families find out more about what support is available for people with autism. Professionals working in the care sector were also invited along to help them find out more about behaviour support and autism, applied behaviour analysis and assistive technology.
Families got the chance to hear from inspirational speakers and gain free face to face advice from specialists, while a range of activities were organised for children.
While autism affects one in every 100 people in the UK, it is still a little understood condition. The events were organised to help raise awareness and show families what support is out there for them. As the UK's largest provider of autism support, Dimensions was well placed to provide the advice needed.
