Research

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new research project - 'A Home of My Own'. We hope the findings will provide practical help and advice for young people and their families on planning independent living, as well as best practice guidelines and recommendations for care providers and local authorities.

Young people between the ages of 18 and 30, along with their families and support staff, were interviewed about their experiences relating to the transition into their own home. Some key highlights of the research are:

  • How to put together a person centred plan
  • A summary of benefits available to young people
  • A Funding timeline outlining all major assessments
  • Guidance on finding the perfect home
  • Ten case studies of young people who have successfully moved into their own home.

Matt is supported by our transitions serviceTransitions Development Manager at Dimensions, Kate Jackson, says:
"Parents need to be better informed about available housing options at the point of transition planning. No truly person-centred plan should overlook the importance of having 'A Home of My Own'."
